Method and example
Base = ceil(length / spacing) + 1. Purchase = ceil((base + extra) × (1 + waste / 100)). A 4 m wall with 40 cm spacing needs 11 base studs; adding 2 and 10% waste gives 15. A 12 ft wall at 16 in needs 10.
