Boards run along deck length. Rows = ceil((width + gap) / (board width + gap)). Stock pieces per row are rounded up before waste. Joists = ceil(length / spacing) + 1, including both ends. Cost includes boards only. Joints may need extra supports; these, fasteners, beams and structural capacity are not calculated.
